Readiness Preparedness to Seize e-2-3 Wheelers Market Globally

Share to

The number of motorized vehicles in Indonesia has reached more than 146 million units (2019)1
,
consisting of motorcycles, passenger cars, bus trucks, each of which amounts to almost 121
million units, more than 16 million units, 8.2 million units and 985 thousand units. Total annual
sales of cars are 1.1 million units; while motorcycles were 6.48 million units (2019). The number
of vehicle fleets in Indonesia tends to increase drastically, such as during the economic recovery
period in 2001/2002, the emergence of the motor vehicle market after the monetary crisis in
1997/1998, and are dominated by motorcycles in the fleets.
And in fact, the number of more than 146 million units has a negative impact on the supply of
fuel needed for the operation of these vehicles. It requires at least 68.7 million KL/year (2019) to
meet the overall operation of motorized vehicles in Indonesia. The largest number was absorbed
by motorcycles, which reached 37%, followed by logistics/goods transport trucks, buses, gasoline
passenger cars, diesel passenger cars, and 3-wheelers; with the proportions of 26%, 14%, 13%,
10% and less than 1% respectively. Even though there is already a biodiesel program (B15 in
2015, B20 in 2017, B30 in 2019), the procurement of fuel supplies still burdens the government
with imports of fuel products which reach 17.6 million KL/year (gasoline) and 5.2 million KL/year
(diesel fuel) for 2019. This burden will of course greatly affect our country's monetary system
which contributes to the trade balance deficit.
The number of vehicle fleets in Indonesia tends to increase drastically, as during the economic
recovery period of 2001/2002, the emergence of the motor vehicle market after the monetary
crisis in 1997/1998. Now, the total vehicle fleet is more than 146 million units, and nearly 121
million are dominated by motorcycles.
